Dual Credit Options for High School Students
Credit Options
- LTC and Your High School Might Have an Agreement
There are two types of articulation agreements that your school may have with LTC: Advanced Standing or Transcripted Credit
If your high school has an advanced standing agreement with LTC, courses for which you earned a “B” or better in high school will transfer to LTC or any other Wisconsin Technical College. Make your high school courses work to your credit!
If your high school has a transcripted credit agreement with LTC, courses for which you earn a "C" or better in high school will count as LTC credit. Upon completion of the transccripted credit classes you will be issued a college trancript, for which you can transfer to any institution of your choice!
For more information about advanced standing and transcripted credit classes, contact your high school counselor or your High School Liaisons-Sara Greenwood or Nikki Kiss . For a listing of articulated agreements, you may also refer to the following web site: http://gotoltc.edu
- Youth Options
If you are a high school junior or senior you can attend classes and earn credits at LTC through the Youth Options program. Those credits can apply to both high school and technical college credit requirements. You should apply to your local school board by March 1 for the fall semester, and by October 1 for the spring semester. Call your local high school guidance office to meet with a counselor to select the college courses that are right for you.
- Youth Apprenticeship
If you’ve completed a youth apprenticeship (YA) through the state of Wisconsin, we’ll probably be able to give you credit if your technical college program is similar. Present a youth apprenticeship completion certificate to LTC at the time of registration to see how your credits for YA apply to an LTC program. If you’re interested in YA, contact your high school counselor for more information.
- Job Shadowing, Work Experience and Certified Co-ops
Find out what the requirements are for work experience, certified co-ops, or job shadowing and see how they can work into your high school schedule. The following is a list of the co-ops that are currently valid in the state of Wisconsin:
Agribusiness (Animal & Plant Science)
Business
Child Services
Electronics
Food Service
Health Science
Marketing (which includes Executive Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Professional Sales, Retail Marketing, E-Commerce, Sports & Entertainment)
Stop in to see your counselor or work experience instructor to see if these programs are offered at your high school.
- Ever Considered Testing Out?
You can receive LTC credits by passing proficiency exams designed for specific LTC courses. There are limits on how often you can retake the exam and there is a non refundable $20 fee. Students may also receive LTC credits by earning a score of 3 or higher on Advanced Placement (AP) tests. For more information call LTC’s Vocational Assessment Office at 1.888.468.6582, Ext. 1184.
- Associate Degree Transfer Program
Did you know that LTC has many signed transfer agreements with 4-year institutions around the state? Look on the web site at: http://gotoltc.edu/transfer/index.php and click on “LTC Transfer Agreements” for this information. Some examples of transfers include Silver Lake College, Alverno College, Marian College, Marquette University, and most of the UW System: http://tis.uwsa.edu/index.html
Flexible Learning Options
- On-line/Flexible Learning Takes Many Forms
While in high school, you might be able to take LTC courses via 2-way TV, the Internet, or from videocassettes or printed materials. Talk to your school guidance counselor for more information or contact Chris Brunette at 1.888.468.6582, ext. 1228. It can work to your credit!
Still Have Questions?
- Several times each year the LTC high school liaisons - Sara Greenwood and Nikki Kiss visit their assigned high schools. Look for posters announcing the dates and time they will be at your school.
