Grants/Scholarships for High School Students wishing to take LTC courses

DPI Scholarship - Contact: HS Liaison

LTC has been awarded funds from DPI to cover the cost of tuition and textbooks for students who are eligible for the National School Lunch Program (as certified by their school).
The courses covered in the program are:

      Medical Terminology

      Business Law

EMT-Basic (must be 17 years old)

Interested students must apply by filling out the Student Application form - note that the form requires signatures from the parent and the school.  The program can accommodate about 100 students in 2009-10.  Funding for FY11 will be based on available funds in the 2009-11 Biennial Budget.

This is a reimbursement program not an upfront grant.  Therefore, your school district will need to cover the cost until the student completes the course and then DPI will reimburse us for the tuition and textbooks, we in turn reimburse the school district.  We will use a process similar to the Youth Options process/dates, and LTC will collect and submit the Application Forms and submit them to DPI.

Dominion Nuclear Technology Scholarship – Contact: HS Liaison

Lakeshore Technical College and Dominion Energy have formed a partnership to provide high school students the opportunity to take college courses in the Radiation Safety field.  This partnership will fund three introductory courses to help students prepare for college and future employment:

      Intro to Nuclear Technology

      Health Physics Calculations

      Nuclear Sources Systems

These courses will be offered on-line and via ITV to accommodate busy schedules and foster a flexible learning environment. Students can take one class to determine if this career is for them, or all three to get an early start on their education.

Dual Credit Scholarship – Contact:  HS Liaison

Lakeshore Technical College’s Foundation Office has established a scholarship for high school students wishing to take college courses for college and high school credit.  Students will need to complete the Dual Credit Scholarship Application form and send it in to their HS Liaison.  This scholarship will provide students with up to $300 for tuition and fees for LTC courses.
